Beef Sticks for Backpacks

Beef Sticks for Backpacks is a Colorado based non-profit and our mission is to produce and donate beef sticks to backpack programs that feed food insecure children in Colorado on the weekends. 1 in 7 children in Colorado are unsure about where they will get their next meal and on the weekends many of these children do not have access to food when they are away from school on the weekends. Since 2019, Beef Sticks for Backpacks has donated over 1.8 million beef sticks and currently is distributing 20,000 beef sticks each week across the state of Colorado. 

‘Backpack Programs’ are independent non-profit organizations with the mission of putting together bags of shelf-stable food that they can send home with kids who are experiencing weekend food insecurity in their community. Backpack programs are faced with rising food costs and the challenge of finding shelf-stable food that this not only nutritious but something that kids will eat. We work directly with backpack programs across the state to make sure that they are getting enough beef sticks to put one in each one of their bags each week. Not only are our beef sticks nutritious, but kids also love them!

Our 1 ounce beef sticks contains 8 grams of protein and are produced by students in the department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University. This strategic partnership allows us to accept in-kind donations from the agriculture industry and drastically lower our production cost. We are currently able to produce and donate three beef sticks for every dollar that we raise – an incredible impact per giving dollar! Help us feed hungry kids in Colorado the protein they deserve!
