Beast of Burden Recovery and Education Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Castle Rock, Colorado. Beast of Burden REC helps equines in need (with a primary focus on mules and donkeys) and provides educational resources and programs to the public about them.

Mules and Donkeys have been known historically as "Beasts of Burden," and are often taken for granted as hardy work animals- with little advocacy for their needs. Mules and Donkeys are highly emotional animals that can thrive alongside people if their needs are met.

Beast of Burden REC has rehabilitated many mules and donkeys. These animals come in from many different situations- so Beast of Burden REC works closely with professionals (like renowned veterinary hospitals and farriers). From; refeeds, behavioral problems, hospice care, surgeries, or even simply giving a soft landing to senior animals. Beast of Burden REC is committed to each animal and their individual needs.

Beast of Burden REC also showcases HOW to take care of these animals from both a foundational perspective along with more in-depth and intricate philosophies. Alongside rehabbing and training mules and donkeys that come into Beast of Burden REC's care- Beast of Burden REC also provides RESOURCES to the public to extend the advocacy for these incredible animals. Resources like Clinics and Seminars offer insight into the following;

- Hosting Care Seminars led from professionals- delve into topics like; nutrition, farrier care, medical findings, and more!

- Along with providing Training and Horsemanship Clinics based all on principles such as; feel, respect, and purpose.

Beast of Burden Recovery and Education Center also uses their Educational Ambassadors (which are animals that they have rehabbed and trained) in hands-on experiences to the public. Mules and donkeys can offer comfort and healing to people that also have carried burdens from their own lives- like; veterans, first-responders, caregivers, health care workers, veterinarians, and others who experience obstacles such as compassion fatigue. The Educational Ambassadors offer an opportunity to show that no matter one's past- things can still turn around with a little help and support, and there is nothing wrong with having a helping hand to get there.
