Be the Gift is devoted to enhancing and securing family stability through home repair assistance for Single Mom homeowners and their Children. We provide this service as a gift with no cost to the Single Mom Families in our Communities. Combined with care and compassion, our desire is too raise their quality of life.
Be the Gift is a 501(c)(3) community service organization established in 2008.
Just think of the GIFT you could be. Taking care of a family is a full-time job just within itself, yet for a single mother to hold a job, care for her children and still tend to the needs of her home can be overwhelming. With just about half of the single mothers living below the poverty line, funds are limited and yet we have witnessed over and over the need for repair in their homes. They do not have the expertise or the finances to “fix” items in their home.
Our three goals:
1. Home repair for Widows, Single Moms, and their Children. The situation in single mom homes comes down to basic economics. To make housing more affordable, families forego necessary home repairs to pay for other needs, allowing their homes to fall further into disrepair. Over time, the stresses associated with cost burdened or indecent housing can endanger occupants’ health and safety, erode their sense of self-worth, and impair professional and academic success of their children. A child living in a single mom home has a difficult enough situation to handle and often at no fault to them becomes the victim to the many circumstances and struggles that unfold in their lives.
2. Community Volunteerism. Many are looking for opportunities to serve. One of the great gifts we can give another is our time and Be the Gift helps fulfill their goal of community involvement and team building where we connect those who want to help with those who need help. We know that “service changes the server”.
3. Self-sufficiency through Education. We educate about her home with the result of recognizing dangerous situations, doing simple fixes and rectifying home issues. Our services aid in the well-being of all in the household. The single mothers know their home is safe for their children. They focus on their abilities and realize there are people willing to invest in their lives and see the progress they make each day in each situation.
