Background Statement
Mindset Reps was founded in 2012 in partnership with Forging Youth Resilience. After coaching teens, the founder of Mindset Reps, Taylor Montey, noticed something powerful: teens were more willing to open up and talk after a workout. Recognizing the connection between physical activity and emotional well-being, she went back to school to earn her master’s in counseling and built a program that intentionally integrates fitness with mental health resources.
Today, Mindset Reps ensures that all teens—regardless of their circumstances—have access to both mental and physical fitness tools. We focus on serving youth who face significant barriers, including those from under-resourced families, youth out-of-school or unemployed, teens in or aging out of foster care, those experiencing homelessness, students at risk of leaving school without a diploma, youth involved in the justice system, and those facing discrimination or socio-emotional challenges.
By bridging the gap between fitness and counseling, we create safe spaces where young people can build resilience, develop healthy habits, and gain the confidence to thrive in school, sports, and life.
