Message Body:
LOVED Degas! Seeing Ballet Ariel for the first time tonight was like trying out a new restaurant and getting a perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned steak- completely satisfying. My friend and I (both old dancers and teachers in our younger years) enjoyed it so much! The variety of choreography was a nice change- all so different but all so wonderful! I see lots of theater and ballet and this will stand out in my memory as a favorite for years to come. It was so endearing, so creative and funny. We laughed and reminisced the whole way home about all the fun and drama from our past ballet lives- whether in class or behind the curtain. I only wish I wouldn't have gone to the last performance- otherwise I would have seen it again. This was a ballet for everyone...but especially for us. Thank you!!!
Ballet Ariel presents original ballets that combine classical tradition and images of contemporary culture, while
providing dance education and fostering appreciation of the art of ballet.
Ballet Ariel is a professional company located in Denver, Colorado specializing in expressive, narrative ballets that meld classical traditions with contemporary themes and interpretations. Founded in 1998, Ballet Ariel has evolved into a laboratory for developing original classical ballets; a collaborative environment where the beauty of classical ballet comes together with narrative storytelling and a contemporary vision.
In addition to developing new ballets, Ballet Ariel also stages classical works accentuating the beauty and elegance of this timeless art form. Ballet Ariel produces season after season of radiant dance performances, designed to delight audiences of all ages. Original ballets paired with beautifully staged classics has distinguished Ballet Ariel as a dynamic professional company.
Unrivaled in its ingenuity, Ballet Ariel's diversity is amplified through its creative team. Led by master storyteller, Ilena Norton, ballet mistress, Patricia Renzetti, and resident choreographer, Gregory Gonzales, the company's original ballets incorporate classical and contemporary styles to create captivating narrative ballets enhanced with stunning musical scores. Ballet Ariel has created ballets as unique as the jungle story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and this seasons' beautiful Ballerina by Degas, which brought Degas' paintings of Paris Opera ballet dancers to life. Past original ballets include Appalachian Spring, a narrative ballet to Aaron Copland's iconic music and Tale of Molly Brown. This bold artistic risk taking adds great depth and character to the Denver arts community.
As the perfect complement to its original ballets, Ballet Ariel breathes new life into the classics, re-staging the masterworks through a refreshing, yet erudite, lens. Frequently, through Ballet Ariel's association with rehearsal director Oleg Dedogryuk, the company has been able to stage classics performed at the famous Bolshoi Theatre in Russia. The season's production of Act III from Swan Lake is a less well known version from the Bolshoi repertoire as was La Fille Mal Gardee (The Misbehaving Daughter) in 2016. To have such direct access to this repertoire is unique among Denver area dance companies and helps set Ballet Ariel apart from the rest.
Ballet Ariel has performed at the Cleo Parker Robinson Theatre since 1998 and began performing at the Lakewood Cultural Center in 2013. Ballet Ariel has also performed throughout the Denver metro area in the SCFD summerfest series at the Arvada Center, the Lone Tree Arts Center Passport to Culture Series, the Denver Ballet Guild Showcase of Dance, the Mile-High Dance Festival, and others.
