Our mission at Bakhita Mountain Home is clear: to support women in healing from the trauma of sexual exploitation and guide them towards achieving independence. We accomplish this by providing a residential home that operates on trauma-informed practices and imparts life-enhancing skills crucial for personal development. BMH stands as a testament to the transformative power of community, offering survivors a chance to heal individually while connecting with a supportive community. BMH is more than just a residential program; it is an independent communal living space where survivors can focus on setting and achieving their individual goals. As a rent-free program, residents can stay for up to two years, allowing them the time and support needed to rebuild their lives without the burdens of everyday stressors. Basic needs are met at BMH, enabling residents to concentrate on their healing journey. The core principles of safety, life-enhancing skills, wholeness, and community underscore every aspect of the BMH program. Safety is paramount, ensuring that survivors can begin their healing journey in a secure and nurturing environment. Life-enhancing skills are imparted to empower individuals with the tools they need to thrive independently. The concept of wholeness is central to our mission, recognizing that healing extends beyond the physical to encompass emotional and psychological well-being. Lastly, community forms the foundation of BMH, offering a support network that fosters a sense of belonging and shared strength. Trauma often leads to isolation, but at BMH, we actively counteract this by encouraging participants to engage with both individual and community supports. Community-building activities, group sessions, shared meals, and communal events contribute to the formation of a supportive network within BMH. By embracing the values of safety, life-enhancing skills, wholeness, and community, Bakhita Mountain Home is dedicated to being a beacon of hope and healing for survivors on their journey to reclaiming their lives.

To support women in healing from the trauma of sexual exploitation and in achieving independence by providing an established residential home, trauma-informed practices, and life-enhancing skills.
Bakhita Mountain Home (BMH) is a nonprofit organization established in 2019 with a profound commitment to providing a sanctuary for survivors of human trafficking. In the Spring of 2021 BMH opened it doors to survivors, offering a two-year rent-free program that has provided over a thousand safe nights for survivors seeking refuge from the traumatic experiences of sexual exploitation.
Since its inception, BMH has dedicated itself to fostering an environment of healing and growth, with a focus on empowering survivors to rebuild their lives. In pursuit of this goal, we have not only offered a safe and secure space for survivors but have also delivered over 2,000 hours of comprehensive support. This support includes case management, financial education, community building, equine therapy, art therapy, and life skills education.
