Some children don't have the same opportunities as others. They face barriers which limit their potential. But they have inspiring grit, motivation, capacity and promise. These are our scholars and collegians. You are providing access to the education and opportunities so they thrive!

Arthur, Community College of Aurora student

Last year I came to the Success Starts With Breakfast and sat with our board chair and some of his guests.  The conversations that morning solidified my interest in political science.   I’m on track to graduate in May with my Associates Degree in Political Science from Community College of Aurora.  I have the Aurora Gives Scholarship, so will graduate debt free.

Now I’m working with Emily, the Boys Hope Girls Hope Senior Manager of Post-Secondary Success.  We are researching what four year programs exist that would be a good fit.   I’m looking at out of state programs, as well as in state.  Long term, I’m thinking about law school.  Emily has also connected me to Si Se Puede or “Yes, We Can,” the first law school pipeline program of its kind in Colorado, so I can make informed decisions about my future.  Meanwhile I work about 12 hours a week.

Boys Hope Girls Hope opens doors for me and other scholars and collegians.  I’ve learned from them, done what they suggested and am on my way to college graduation.

BHGHCO nurtures and guides motivated young people in need to become well-educated, career-ready men and women for others

Background Statement

Boys Hope Girls Hope founded in 1977 in St. Louis, MO to address the number of young lives being extinguished by negative factors: underfunded schools; families distressed by poverty; and neighborhoods shattered by drugs and violence. BHGH is a bridge to opportunity, providing youth with a sense of belonging, college-preparatory education, life skills, scholarships, and internship opportunities.

In 1993, BHGHCO established residential programming, providing a safe home-like environment for 8 boys in metro Denver.

In 2010, BHGHCO opened a Girls Hope home for 5 girls in metro Denver.

In 2013, BHGHCO created the Academy program at Aurora Central HS to engage more youth and provide more opportunities to those in metro Denver.

In August 2018, BHGHCO moved to all Academy programming, selling both homes to address the increased need for and continued success of BHGHCO’s Academy, a college-prep program.

As BHGHCO approaches its 30th anniversary, over 125 scholars and collegians annually are working towards their dreams of college graduation.
