Boulder Area Trails Coalition (BATCO)

A nonprofit organization

Multi-purpose trails are a valuable community resource which provide recreational benefits which enhance the quality of life for area residents and visitors. Your donation will help us create a system of connected trails, a community of responsible trail users, and public support for trails.

Testimonials

From the Boulder County Parks and Open Space Foundation for BATCO's help building the trail from the West Magnolia area across the newly purchased Toll property to Forest Service lands along the Divide:
"Thank you for your generous donation of $5,000.00 to the Boulder County Parks and
Open Space Foundation in the 2020 tax year. We are very grateful for your support of our foundation and parks. Your commitment will be instrumental in our ability to accomplish the foundation's goals, which include the preservation of open space, ecological restoration, trailbuilding and historic preservation projects."

Mission

Our mission is to promote non-motorized, multi-use, environmentally responsible trail systems in Boulder County and neighboring areas.

Background Statement

BATCO was founded in 1996 by a group of environmentalists, hikers, equestrians, and bicyclists who believed it would be in everyone's best interest to work together on trail issues in Boulder County. Over the years we have developed and published four editions of our "Trails & Recreation Map of Boulder County," a full-sized colorful and educational product printed on waterproof, tearproof paper which shows all designated trails in Boulder County, which routes are open to what user groups, and the public land agency that owns and manages them. The 2020 map edition is better than ever, with new acreage acquisitions, new trails and bike lanes, dog parks, revised detailed inset maps of the West Magnolia and Boulder Mountain Parks, and much more. Net proceeds from the sale of the BATCO Map go toward planning for, building, and maintaining multi-use non-motorized trails. Map sales so far exceed $100,000! We have provided funding for many trail-related projects including direct grants and matching funds to Boulder County Parks & Open Space, USDA Forest Service, and others. BATCO also organizes volunteer trail work projects on public lands around Boulder County.
