Autism is not a distant issue—it is here in our communities, schools, and workplaces. In Colorado alone, thousands of families are navigating the daily challenges of autism, often without adequate support. Nationally, the prevalence has surged from 1 in 59 children in 2014 to 1 in 31 today, representing millions of lives forever changed. Globally, autism touches every culture and economy, demanding collective action.
The Numbers Tell the Story
Colorado: Prevalence now exceeds 1 in 50 children in some regions.
United States: The CDC reports 1 in 31 children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by age eight in 2025—up from 1 in 36 in 2023 and 1 in 59 in 2014.
Worldwide: Autism rates continue to rise, with the U.S. among the highest countries for per capita prevalence.
Recap:
2014: 1 in 59 children
2023: 1 in 36 children
2025: ~1 in 31 children
This near doubling in just over a decade underscores autism as the fastest-growing developmental disability in the world. Families and communities face a rapidly expanding need for resources, support, and research. Without action, adults with autism risk going unsupported—jeopardizing their welfare and futures.
