Background Statement
Autism Vision of Colorado was founded by two founders who had similar proposals. They wanted to create a community where families and individuals on the spectrum could feel free to be themselves when out in public. A place where they could make friends and connect with one another. A place where they could support one another and advocate within the community.
The mission is to educate the community on autism and autism awareness and create a safe place for individuals on the spectrum and their families to meet one another, support one another, and advocate within the community. We will work with families to link them to services and empower them on their journey. We believe that transparency is the key to communication within the community. Every voice should be heard and respected. All ideas are welcome
Autism Vision of Colorado is a 501(c)(3) which was established in 2018. We are comprised of a diverse board of volunteers who share a passion for creating a safe space for the autism community. We are located in Colorado Springs, Colorado but help families across the state. We do not have an office space so that all of our funding can go back into our programs so we can offer them free to families.
We currently run six in-person support groups that range from groups for children, young adults, and parents. We provide 3-4 large events each year, such as our Carnival/Resource Fair, Sensory-friendly Trunk or Treat for All Ages and Abilities, and Sensory-friendly Egg Hunt. During the summer, we offer 1-2 activities a week in the community; and 3-4 activities a week during school breaks. Almost all our activities are free of charge to families or if we need to charge we ask for a $5.00 donation per family.
We collaborate with other autism businesses and resources in our community to create programs to meet the needs of families. We do not want to duplicate any existing resources, instead, we refer families to those available resources.
