Clean, safe, and sufficient water supplies are critical to you and your family, which is the reason AWWA Water Equation (WE) provides funding for continual education to operators as well as academic scholarships for water research and supports the efforts of Community Engineering Corps.
Investing in the Water Workforce
These water professionals ensure the public health of all of us by providing safe drinking water to your community. AWWA's Water Equation provides funding for training, leadership programs and continuing education to the water heroes who work long hours and never worked remotely during the pandemic. They treat your water, test your water, and ensure that you can open your tap at home and be confident that it is safe to drink.
How can you help in encouraging young people to join the water community? Please donate to Water Equation and support the water workforce.
Water Equation (WE) provides funding for workforce advancements, scholarships, students, young professionals, and Community Engineering Corps. WE is committed to fulfilling the critical need to ensure that the water community has the necessary workforce to provide clean and safe water to communities in North America. 100% of your donation funds programs to promote employment for the next generation of water professionals.

They adopted a constitution that stated the purpose of the association as being "for the exchange of information pertaining to the management of water-works, for the mutual advancement of consumers and water companies, and for the purpose of securing economy and uniformity in the operations of water-works."
On Jan. 1, 1976, AWWA filed Articles of Incorporation in Illinois that reframed AWWA's purpose as follows:
"The purpose for which the Association is formed is to promote public health, safety, and welfare through the improvement of the quality and quantity of water delivered to the public and the development and furtherance of understanding of the problems relating thereto by:
The history of AWWA is the history of the people who have committed themselves to achieving the purpose set forth more than a century ago, now simply stated as creating a better world through better water. Philanthropy is a large part of AWWA's history. The Water Research Foundation was founded in 1966, Water for People in 1992, and now the Water Equation to fund needs in the workforce and in underserved communities.
