$5,000 Goal

The Alliance for Music Education Equity (AMEE) is the backbone organization of a collective impact effort of music organizations that are passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusivity, and are committed to cooperatively making systemic change in music education across Denver. AMEE offers training, workshops, networking and special events for its members to work towards greater equity and access to music education and music programs in Denver. We imagine a cooperative, solutions-oriented network that is adaptive and responsive to the changing needs of our community so that the power of music is unleashed in new and creative ways.

AMEE has recently become an independent 501(c)-3 organization and your donation directly helps build operational capacity (staff, operations) and specific programming such as a speaker series for members, a website filled with member resources (events calendar, teaching artist database, member forum, curricular resources, newsletter) and a monthly member workshop hour.

Mission

AMEE unites organizations to identify and implement actions that address diversity, equity, and inclusivity in music education in Denver in a collective, transformational, measurable, and sustainable manner.

Background Statement

In December 2018, the leaders of three Denver music organizations started seriously discussing a common challenge in their work. It echoed similar conversations they all had with colleagues over the years: The lack of equity in music education was an issue everyone was concerned about. In October 2019, El Sistema Colorado, Denver Young Artists Orchestra, and the Colorado Symphony hosted a convening of Denver-area music organizations (supported by the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation and Denver Foundation) to further investigate the demand for music education equity. With expert facilitation provided by Team Tipton, we came to an overwhelming consensus (among the 51 people in attendance representing 39 different music organizations) about creating an alliance of music organizations.

In January 2020, fourteen organizations signed on as founding members of AMEE and have contributed countless hours and resources through committee work in getting this initiative off the ground. We believe this is an indicator of AMEE’s potential for success in the Denver marketplace.

Currently, AMEE includes 20 member organizations and as of June 30th, 2023, has become an official 501(c)-3 non profit organization.
