Our objective is not simply to shelter the homeless, but more importantly, to help build a path to self-sufficiency for families experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Almost Home, Inc. has spent the last year celebrating the 30th Anniversary of its existence. In 1993, a group of like-minded and caring citizens started Almost Home in the basement of a local church to help those in the community experiencing homelessness. Over the past 30 years, Almost Home has grown from a small, citizen-run non-profit in a small one-bedroom home to one of the region’s most expansive organizations providing support to those experiencing homelessness and housing instability in Adams, Broomfield, and Weld Counties. With continued support from the communities we serve, we can help our disadvantaged community members and continue to expand our services, reaching more individuals and families than we ever have.

Almost Home, Inc. prides itself on developing, facilitating, and improving the following innovative programs:

~ Homeless Prevention Program: Provides rent, mortgage, & utility assistance

~ Family Emergency Shelter Program: Provides temporary shelter for up to 7 families

~ Severe Weather Activation Program: Provides motel shelter during inclement weather

~ Street Outreach Program: Provides resources for unsheltered community members

~ Supportive Housing Program: Partner referral-based housing & case management assistance

~ Respite Housing Program: Provides extended motel stay for persons fleeing domestic violence

~ Housing Navigation Center: Provides resource assistance to walk-in participants

Almost Home strives to meet the specific needs of both individuals and families experiencing homelessness. To further extend help to families, Almost Home is partnering with several Adams County & Westminster public school districts to provide emergency shelter and housing navigators who work with families in the district. Our goal is to help house students and their families who meet the guidelines of the McKinney-Vento Act and provide students with educational stability ensuring they have as little disruption as possible to their lives during this difficult time.

Dawn's Story

Dawn moved to Colorado with the hopes of creating a better life for her and her two teenage daughters. Unfortunately, Dawn’s vision did not go according to plan, as she encountered obstacles that prevented her from securing housing, therefore the family was living in motels. Dawn was quickly going through her savings and was in crisis mode as she faced the reality that her and her daughters would be living in their car soon if she could not obtain the assistance needed to help her get back on her feet.

“It was really hard to find a place to live, because Colorado requires three times the income (which I did not know until I moved here) in order to qualify for a place. As a single mother, I could not find a place. I was repeatedly turned down.” - Dawn, Program Participant
