Your Support Can Break Barriers to Treatment

This mission is a matter of deep personal conviction for me as Acacia Counseling’s Executive Director as I carry on the legacy of our late founder. Dr. Bob Schneider started Acacia Counseling, Inc. in 1995 with the vision of being able to provide education and accountability to clients being court-ordered to attend domestic violence or substance use disorder treatment in an affordable yet accountable manner. He saw a particular need for LGBTQ+ services and he was one of a handful to pioneer that service. He advocated for LGBTQ+ clients to be able to receive treatment in a safe environment with the Colorado DVOMB and that was made part of the DVOMB standards that every provider must follow now. In 2021, Dr. Schneider brought me back to Acacia Counseling, Inc. I have a background in domestic violence victim advocacy, child neglect and dependency VOCA case management, and treatment agency management. The experience that Dr. Schneider felt I could bring to Acacia Counseling, Inc. was more than business, it was personal. My oldest daughter died of an opioid overdose in 2017. Together, we have acquired a Standing Order for Acacia Counseling, Inc. to possess, administer, and offer education on Narcan. We also reinitiated parenting courses as another resource for safe and sober families. Sadly, Dr. Schneider passed away unexpectedly from Covid-19 in January 2023. Our staff will carry on his vision for affordable, safe, and effective treatment for all.
Since the time of its founding, a core pillar of Acacia Counseling’s strategy to provide education and treatment to clients and help rebuild lives has been providing tailored face-to-face support post-conviction. As demand for our services continues to grow, the organization needs a way to employ, train, and educate counselors, addiction specialists, and employees. A network of trained specialists able to offer a variety of services on Telehealth and in-office to reduce harm and increase safety in our communities would go a long way toward helping families in Colorado and eventually across the entire United States.
Acacia Counseling Inc. is a Colorado- based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce harm in the community by providing substance use disorder and domestic violence direct services to persons impacted by the justice system.
Our vision is to provide safety to families and to help heal communities by providing education and treatment to a diverse clientele.
We are committed to building a safe and sober community of support to help individuals recover, and not re-offend while providing affordable, up-to-date treatment, regardless of someone’s gender, race, religion, or orientation.
Founded in 1995, Acacia Counseling, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit behavioral-health agency based in Denver, Colorado. Acacia provides compassionate, evidence-based counseling and education services to individuals and families working to rebuild their lives. Our programs support court-involved and community clients through domestic-violence treatment, substance-use counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), parenting classes, life-skills workshops, and pro-social decision-making courses.
We are committed to making mental-health and behavioral-health services accessible, affordable, and empowering, especially for those facing financial hardship or systemic barriers. Our team of certified professionals helps clients develop accountability, emotional regulation, and healthy relationship skills in a respectful, trauma-informed environment.
Every year, Acacia serves hundreds of Coloradans who might otherwise go without the care they need. Through our Adrienne J. Chandler Memorial Scholarship Fund, we ensure that cost is never a barrier to healing. Guided by integrity, inclusivity, and evidence-based practice, Acacia Counseling continues to grow as a trusted community partner dedicated to building safer families and stronger futures.
