Who We Are:
A Place Like Home (APLH) is a nonprofit adult day program designed to support both aging adults and their caregivers. We provide a safe, engaging, and joyful environment where participants, especially those living with dementia or other cognitive changes, can connect, create, and thrive. Our mission is to help families avoid premature nursing home placements by offering compassionate daytime care and respite for caregivers.

Who We Serve:
We serve adults aged 60 and older who may be experiencing memory impairment, isolation, or challenges with daily living. Our program also uplifts caregivers by providing a trusted space for their loved ones while they take time to rest, work, or recharge.

Our Current Focus
A Place Like Home is working to secure a new location where we can reopen our doors and welcome participants again. Funds raised through Colorado Gives Day will directly impact this next step by helping us secure and prepare a new, home-like space that meets licensing requirements and creates a warm, comfortable environment for our participants and their families.

Why Your Support Matters
Your generosity helps transform an empty building into a vibrant community hub where older adults can laugh, create, and connect, and where caregivers find peace of mind knowing their loved ones are safe and cared for with dignity. Every donation moves us closer to opening our doors and restoring a vital community service.

Giving Activity

Mission

Our mission is to offer individuals experiencing dementia a place where they can experience a sense of community, socialize with peers, and engage in meaningful, and personalized activities.

In doing so, A Place Like Home aims to prevent premature nursing home placements and to ensure that participants have a fulfilling and enriching experience while attending the program.

At A Place Like Home, we understand the importance of providing the 24/7, at-home caregivers with much needed breaks while caring for their loved ones. Our mission guarantees that both participants and their families benefit from having a quality, secure environment. A place where caregivers will be valued, and participants will enjoy meaningful activities and social interaction.

Background Statement

A Place Like Home was founded by Paula Levy, a lifelong advocate for older adults and their families. With more than 35 years of experience in dementia care, Paula saw how many caregivers struggled to find daytime support that felt truly personal and home-like. She created A Place Like Home to meet that need — offering meaningful engagement for participants and peace of mind for caregivers.

Before founding A Place Like Home, Paula served as a Nursing Home Administrator and Activities Therapist, developed adult day programs in Colorado Springs, and volunteered for decades with the Alzheimer’s Association. Her work has been recognized through multiple community awards, including the Joe Henjum Lifetime Achievement Award.

Today, A Place Like Home continues that legacy of compassion and excellence. Guided by a dedicated board and rooted in the values of love, patience, community, and respect, the program provides families with more than care. It offers connection, understanding, and a true sense of belonging.
