Healing doesn't always begin in a counseling office. Sometimes it begins with the quiet presence of a horse.

Serenity Stables Foundation: A Fence of Recovery is a Colorado nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives through trauma-informed equine-facilitated learning. Located on our peaceful ranch in Elizabeth, Colorado, we provide experiential programs that help individuals, youth, families, and organizations develop the confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, communication skills, and self-awareness needed to overcome life's challenges and create lasting change.

Our mission was born from a simple belief: every person deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and discover their own inner strength—regardless of their financial circumstances or past experiences.

Unlike traditional classroom or office-based programs, participants learn alongside our herd of horses. Horses naturally respond to human emotions and behaviors without judgment or bias. They provide immediate, honest feedback that helps participants recognize patterns, develop healthy coping skills, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and build confidence in ways that words alone often cannot.

We serve people from all walks of life. Some are rebuilding their lives after addiction. Others are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, or major life transitions. We welcome children learning emotional regulation, families working to reconnect, veterans, first responders, schools, community organizations, businesses seeking stronger teams, and anyone looking to improve their overall well-being.

Our programs include:

• Youth & Family Programs that strengthen confidence, communication, resilience, and healthy family relationships.

• Recovery Programs that support individuals affected by substance use disorders through peer connection, emotional regulation, life skills development, and recovery-focused equine learning.

• Wellness Retreats that combine horses, HeartMath®, mindfulness, yoga, guided reflection, and Equine Facilitated Reiki to reduce stress and promote personal wellness.

• Team Building & Leadership experiences that help businesses, nonprofits, schools, and community groups improve communication, trust, collaboration, and leadership through experiential learning with horses.

At Serenity Stables, every program is grounded in respect, compassion, safety, and the understanding that healing is not one-size-fits-all. Our approach focuses on helping participants build practical skills they can immediately apply in everyday life—whether that's learning to regulate emotions during stressful situations, improving communication with loved ones, developing healthier boundaries, increasing self-confidence, or reconnecting with a sense of purpose.

Over the years, we have partnered with recovery organizations, behavioral health providers, schools, youth-serving agencies, sober living communities, and community organizations throughout Colorado to expand access to equine-facilitated learning. Many participants attend through scholarships made possible by generous donors, grant funding, and community support because we believe that financial barriers should never prevent someone from receiving life-changing services.

Every donation directly impacts our mission. Contributions help provide scholarships for participants who cannot afford services, feed and care for our therapy horses, maintain a safe and welcoming ranch environment, purchase educational materials and program supplies, and expand outreach to underserved communities across Colorado.

Our horses are more than part of the program—they are partners in the healing process. Together with dedicated staff, volunteers, and community supporters, they create an environment where people feel seen, accepted, encouraged, and empowered to move forward.
