7/20 Memorial Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The 7/20 Memorial Foundation was created to honor the lives lost in the Aurora theater tragedy on July 20, 2012 and to support healing for individuals and communities affected by mass violence.

What began as a community effort to create and maintain the permanent 7/20 Memorial in Aurora, Colorado has grown into a mission dedicated to helping communities navigate the long road of recovery after tragedy.

Today, the Foundation works to connect survivors, families, first responders, and community members with resources that support healing, resilience, and long-term recovery. Through partnerships with survivor-led organizations, mental health professionals, and community leaders, the Foundation helps ensure that those impacted by tragedy are not left to walk the journey alone.

Programs and initiatives include:

  • Community healing projects, such as the Paper Crane Peace Project, which sends messages of hope to communities experiencing tragedy.

  • Education and outreach focused on resilience, recovery, and trauma-informed community response

  • Support for survivor networks and collaborative efforts, including the Survivors of Tragedy Outreach Program (S.T.O.P.) coalition

  • Stewardship of the 7/20 Memorial, ensuring it remains a sacred place of remembrance, reflection, and community connection

The 7/20 Memorial Foundation believes that even in the darkest moments, compassion, connection, and collective healing can create a path forward.

Your support helps us honor the lives lost, uplift survivors, and extend hope to communities facing tragedy across the country.

Mission

The 7/20 Memorial Foundation envisions a world where all people are thriving and empowered in their healing journeys and where the need for mental health support is recognized, more readily available, and helps prevent other tragedies.
