My name is Jodie and I have four children. I have been recently divorced. I was given my home in my divorce, but I had no idea where to turn to get some help with the process. Legal Aide of Pueblo referred me to NeighborWorks of Pueblo. What a true blessing my time has been with Cynthia Johnson of NeighborWorks of Pueblo. From the beginning, Cynthia has given me advice, encouraged me and helped me with the process. Words cannot express my gratitude for NeighborWorks of Pueblo and Cynthia Johnson to achieve my goal of proudly saying I am home owner. Now I can say my children are in a stable home and will achieve more in school because of home stability.

Hello. My name is Lisa Suarez. About a year ago, I decided I would like to own my own home. I heard about the Home Ownership Program through HAP. I was next referred to Neighbor Works of Pueblo. I met with Cynthia. She helped me review my credit and establish a budget. I attended Financial Fitness with Rosella. This class helped me to make a plan to purchase a house and set goals on how to do it. I attended the Home Ownership class with Josephhine which explained the steps I would have to take in order to become a home owner. I started this process in August 2016, and now I am the proud owner of a 3 bedroom home on Pine Street. It was a difficult process, but the staff of neighbor Works helped me immensely along the way. With their help, I was able to improve my credit score, reduce my credit, save money, and achieve my goals. They are a great staff and they have great programs. I have referred a friend who is working with Neighbor Works now and is almost ready to close on his first home.

NeighborWorks of Pueblo assisted me in my preparation for homeownership.
As a Section 8 recipient, I received information about the Homebuyer's Voucher Program. I then was referred to NeighborWorks for the assistance I needed to qualify for the Colorado first-time homebuyer's program.
Rosella and staff quickly started assisting me with counseling and helped me take steps toward restoring my credit. I then was scheduled for a class that taught and me aware of details I needed to know. They (NeighborWorks) set me up with a list of realtors and lending agencies. Everything they (NeighborWorks) did for me was so beneficial.

Neighborhood Housing Services of Pueblo (NHS) was founded in 1977, on the idea that a partnership of neighborhood residents, the business community, and the city government can be a catalyst for preventing or reversing neighborhood decline, increasing homeownership opportunities for low and moderate income families and developing a greater sense of neighborhood pride. NHS became a member of the national organization NeighborWorks of America. NeighborWorks Southern Colorado (NWSOCO) has remained true to the old mission: "Revitalize neighborhoods and assist families in homeownership" throughout its history, however, the way NWSOCO has achieved this mission has changed over time to meet the changing needs of the community it serves. uring NWSOCOs early history, in the 1980's and 90's, the organization primarily focused on completing rehab projects in target neighborhoods via low-interest rehab lending, new single-family home construction which provided affordable housing for low-moderate income families and community "clean-up/revitalization" projects. In 1996 NWSOCO began teaching Homebuyer Education classes and providing one-on-one credit counseling services to better prepare our clients for long-term stability after they attain the dream of homeownership, and in 2003 NWSOCO had worked to strengthen these new services and achieved Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) certification of our HBE class, creating higher credibility for this line of business. NWSOCO was a huge resource to the community throughout the housing crisis as we jumped in and added counseling staff in order to help foreclosure clients save their homes. As the housing and foreclosure crisis improved NWSOCO began looking toward the future of the organization in 2013; bringing back lending and real estate development. Achieving Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) opened the doors for NWSOCO to enter a contract with The City of Pueblo to build homes and qualify low-income clients to purchase these homes with affordability subsidies.
