The McAllister House is the oldest standing house in Colorado Springs. It was saved from destruction, and is owned and operated, by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in The State of Colorado. The House was built in 1873 by Major Henry McAllister and his wife Elizabeth. As the Executive Director of the Colorado Springs Company, the Major had a significant influence on the development of southern Colorado and Colorado Springs.
The McAllister House Museum is an important historic and educational resource for residents of Colorado Springs, the greater Pikes Peak Region, and the state of Colorado. Located within the boundaries of the Colorado Springs Business District, the house, carriage house and grounds provide an excellent opportunity for students, Colorado citizens and tourists to enrich their understanding of the natural and built environments in the Pikes Peak Region.
