On behalf of the African Leadership Group staff, our Board of Directors, and all our community members, we would like to extend a heart-felt thank you for your continued support to our organization over the years.
Since its inception, ALG has delivered programs, services, and community events focused on key issues such as education, career and job opportunities, business development, immigration, and civic participation-regularly reaching thousands of individuals in the local community.
•In November 2018, ALG launched the Growing Readers Program: a comprehensive program to give every child in our community the best opportunity to become an engaged and healthy learner.
•This Spring, African Leadership Group released its first-ever report Your Community Your Schools: A Call for Partnership in Aurora Public Schools
•ALG celebrated its 4th Annual Afrik Impact Celebration in August 2019 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center. Our main guest speaker was the Honorable Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Former President of Liberia and 2011 Nobel Prize for Peace winner.
•Better Together: The African-immigrant community gathered with the African American community to discuss and understand some of the misconceptions and tensions that exist between the two communities.
•ALG hosted its first-ever Small Business Pitch Competition, designed to give community members and entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch their business idea, product, or service to a panel of possible investors, for investment opportunities. 5 finalists got to present before the panel of diverse judges and one winner was selected.
•ALG also hosted its first-ever Economic Impact Conference & Workshops - for attendees to learn about business opportunities both within the States and in the continent of Africa while also learning about funding opportunities.
The culmination of our year was having Governor of Colorado, Jared Polis make our dreams come true during our Annual Afrik Impact Gala celebration in August, by issuing an official proclamation establishing the month of August as AFRICAN IMMIGRANT MONTH in the state of Colorado!
We are both proud and honored of this and all our victories this year, but our work is not done. Your contribution will help us continue to provide these programs, celebrate our collective accomplishments, recognize our community champions and have a greater impact in the state of Colorado.
ALG is a project of Colorado Nonprofit Development Center.
