Mission

Cheyenne Mountain Public Broadcast House, through Classical KCME and Jazz 93.5 FM, is a trusted source of quality classical music and arts content for the people of Colorado Springs and Southern Colorado. We are dedicated to supporting a vital cultural community by sharing the artistic voices of Colorado Springs and the world, through broadcasting, digital platforms, and community engagement.

Background Statement

In 1979 three visionaries from Colorado Springs conceived of and founded Cheyenne Mountain Public Broadcast House, Inc. (here forth CMPBH), with the intent of providing the station's then broadcast area with full-time, non-commercial classical music and regional cultural programming. Nearly four decades later, Classical KCME continues to broadcast 24 hours a day, 365 days a year under this same mandate, though to a much larger audience with the additional of it sister station, Jazz 93.5 FM.

Having acquired several translators and an additional full-powered transmitter in Chaffee County over the years, KCME now reaches a large swath of Southern Colorado and Summit County in addition to Colorado Springs and its surrounding communities. In more recent years, the ubiquity of streaming technology has allowed the station to be heard throughout the world. Although live streaming statistics can be difficult to capture, KCME is heard by more than 43,000 unique listeners each week via the station's traditional (non-streaming) broadcast. Jazz 93.5 FM broadcasts at a lower wattage from its transmitter located in the Gold Camp area of Colorado Springs, and along with the local accolades, the station is gaining immense popularity amongst its streaming listeners nationally and globally.

Because of the expansion of the stations' reach, CMPBH extends its spotlight beyond the Colorado Springs metro-region onto cultural opportunities throughout the listening area, benefitting both the station's audience and the numerous arts and cultural nonprofits whose events we highlight. Specialty shows throughout each day provide the listener with more in-depth exposure to a particular facet of classical and jazz music, while more general programming provides a wide variety that supports an evolving appreciation for the genres as a whole. The range of programming provided ensures that our audience is exposed to a breadth and depth of the variety not attainable through even the most robust of listeners' private music libraries.
