The Action Center

Financial gifts to The Action Center enable us to meet our mission. Financial gifts of $200 or more qualify for a 25% state tax credit through the Enterprise Zone Program. All gifts, whether cash or through donated items dropped off at our dock, are tax deductible to the extent provided by the law.

Dan Marks, Director of IT
Start Date: 2017

Dan has been with The Action Center since 2006, serving as the IT Manager, and was recently named the Director of IT. He has more than 20 years of experience in all phases of for-profit and nonprofit technology - including software support, diagnostics, maintenance, and hardware integration. Over his career, he's been the lead on several software and hardware deployments, including two for Kaiser Permanente - which involved floor support for 6,500 users. He has worked directly with vendors on several other database roll-outs over the years. He was integrally involved in the initial HMIS roll-out 10 years ago, and served on the testing and evaluation committee.

Alex Lieberman
Alex joined the Action Center's Operations staff in June of 2011 as the Site/Property Manager. In 2012 he was promoted to Director of Product and Facilities. He has over 10 years experience in the Construction industry with a focus on green building and more than 15 years experience in Operations Management. Originally from New York, Alex received his BA from SUNY at Stony Brook and he and his family have resided in Colorado since 1996.

Laurie joined The Action Center in 2016, bringing 20 years of experience in nonprofit program development and management, with much of her efforts focused on supporting high risk families. She has worked for the Colorado Department of Human Services where she had oversight of, and monitored, two funding streams that supported community-based family resource centers. She holds a BA in Psychology from Connecticut College, a MSW from the University of Denver, and is a Licensed Social Worker.

Barbara Penning, Director of Volunteer Services

Barbara came to the Action Center as a volunteer in 2007 after a 30 year retail management career in department stores. Recognized as a collaborative leader who developed solution driven teams, she was consistently recruited as a senior executive to lead companies through transition or expansion. This gave her an opportunity to live all over the United States. She was educated at Maryville and St. Louis Universities with a passion for social justice. She joined the Action Center staff in 2008 as a Volunteer Coordinator and became Director of Volunteer Programs in 2009.

Pam McPhee
Pam joined the Action Center staff in 2009 as Director of Operations and transitioned to Director of Human Resources and Business Operations in 2012. She is responsible for financial, human resources, technology and administration. She has over 28 years of experience in operations management, primarily in the financial services industry in the for profit sector. Pam holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.

John Covert brings over 25 years of non-profit management and fundraising experience to The Action Center. John invested over 17 year of service to The Salvation Army and 8 year with St. Anthony Health Foundation.
