Chappell Kingsland, Accompanist/Organist
The music of Chappell Kingsland thrives at the intersection of musical worlds. As a composer, he draws equal inspiration from the European/American tradition and from diverse lands (Bali, Japan, West Africa, India). As a performer, his concerts weave art music and popular music into a uniquely personal synthesis.
Dr. Kingsland studied Composition and Organ Performance at the Eastman School of Music (BM) and Composition at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music (MM, DM). His compositions have won first-place awards from the Percussive Arts Society, the Jacobs School of Music, and the International Tuba-Euphonium Association. He teaches Aural Skills, Music Theory and Piano Class at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. He also maintains a private teaching studio and serves as Music Director for Salem UCC.
Chappell is the founder of Wild Beautiful Music, creating exciting arrangements and fiery performances of rock/pop songs as piano solos and chamber music. His debut album, Rock Piano Solos, was released in May 2018. His instrumental rock band Electric Athena performs at many venues in the Denver area. As a graduate of the Choral Conducting Master's Program at the University of Northern Colorado, Marla Wasson has been involved in many forms of music from an early age. As the Artistic Director of the Arvada Chorale, Ms. Wasson brings more than 20 years of leadership and conducting experience to the podium and encourages musicians and non-musicians alike to explore the deeper meaning of the art they present to their audience. Ms. Wasson believes the choral arts offer a direct path to community energy, and that the choral arts are accessible to nearly every person no matter their level of expertise. She is also the founder and artistic director of the women's chamber ensemble Safonia, based in Denver.
