Kate Schreiner, Development and Marketing Coordinator
Start Date: 2018

Kate is responsible for processing all gifts to the Foundation, as well as coordinating the Patron Pass Program and managing the Foundation's database. Prior to joining the Foundation, she served two years with AmeriCorps in Oklahoma and Texas, focusing on high school graduation and college completion.

Kate grew up in Summit County and received her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is currently a student in the Master of Nonprofit Management Program at Regis University. In her spare time, Kate enjoys hiking and attempting to conquer high-altitude baking.

Tara Dew, Program Manager
Start Date: 2018

Tara joined the Summit Foundation in January 2018 as the Program Coordinator. With experience in the nonprofit sector, Tara is passionate about collaboration and innovation in addressing community needs. At The Summit Foundation, she supports the grants and scholarship programs and is particularly invested in developing the Mountain Scholars initiative.

Tara received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish at the University of San Diego Honors program and loves to travel to keep her language skills sharp. She enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, and attempting to identify wildflowers she encounters on hikes.

Jen Sylvester, Operations Coordinator
Start Date: 2020

Jen joined The Summit Foundation in January 2020 as the Operations Coordinator. Prior to joining the Foundation, Jen worked as an Office Marketing Coordinator for Slifer, Smith and Frampton.

Jen grew up in Summit County and received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado. She spends her free time with her husband and daughter, hiking, skiing and introducing her daughter to all that Summit has to offer.

Jeanne Bistranin, Executive Director
Start Date: 2015

Jeanne's entire career has been devoted to philanthropy and giving back to the community, and she brings extensive experience in nonprofit management, philanthropy and community relations. Her expertise includes encouraging collaborative efforts, building initiatives to address community needs, and connecting donors with causes that match their interests.

Prior to joining The Summit Foundation, Jeanne worked for the Adolph Coors Foundation and the U S WEST Foundation.

A Colorado native, Jeanne obtained a Master's degree in Communications from the University of Denver and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She enjoys reading, hiking and taking in the beautiful scenery of Summit County.

Brian Balok, Marketing and Events Manager
Start Date: 2020

Brian manages the marketing and event initiatives for The Summit Foundation. He spent 16 years in Chicago at a marketing agency before making the move to Summit County. Before joining The Summit Foundation, he was a snowmaker and trail groomer at Keystone Resort.

Brian got his start in marketing and events driving the Hershey's Kissmobile across the US while raising money for local charities. He enjoys a good powder day, camping and checking out local music.

Sandy Nelson, Director of Finance
Start Date: 2018

Sandy joined the Foundation recently as the Director of Finance after living part-time in Summit County since 2011. Sandy has an extensive background in public, governmental and non-profit accounting/finance.

Prior to joining the Foundation, she was the CFO for the Colorado Education Initiative, Director of Finance at The Multiple Sclerosis Society, Colorado-Wyoming Chapter and CFO/Director of Business and Administrative Services for the Auraria Higher Education Center.

A Colorado native, Sandy has a double major in both Accounting and Business Administration and is a Certified Public Accountant. She is thrilled to be in Summit County full-time and enjoys skiing, golfing, biking, kayaking and all the community has to offer.

Taryn Power, Director of Development
Start Date: 2019

Taryn comes to us from the Town of Breckenridge where she has been the Deputy Town Clerk for the past six years, which includes a variety of duties such as liquor licensing and special events permits. She has experience in special events through this role and helps to manage the town's social media presence.

Taryn is also committed to the community and has been actively involved with a number of nonprofits including the Breckenridge Film Festival. Taryn grew up in Summit County and is a graduate of the University of Colorado. She and her husband Zak Himmelman live in the Wellington neighborhood in Breck and enjoy participating in long distance endurance events.
