David J Ortolano, Executive Director
Start Date: 2005

David Ortolano is the founder and Executive Director of the Boulder International Fringe Festival, Inc a 501c3 organization that provides space and resources for artists of all disciplines to independently produce creative work for the community. On the Fringe, he teaches workshops in site-specific performance and design with an emphasis on community collaboration. He was also faculty in production and design in the BFA and MFA Contemporary Performance programs at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where he was the Director of the Naropa Performing Arts Center from 1999-2012.

David Ortolano brings together a unique sense of event planning with artistic creativity to develop new forms of public events, influence social change and create significant artistic movements in our culture. His innovative ideas and community engagement are highly influenced by the tours and traveling across the US, Canada and Mexico, living in the Balinese Banjar community systems, Ruth Zaporah's Action Theater, Mudra Theater, Dharma Art, Lecoq Physical Theater and a broad range of professional experience in Event Design, Music, Dance, Theater and Film production.

Coming from a very large family, David is no stranger to community practice. He has spent most of his life observing and recreating interpersonal relationships on and off stage. In the past 25 years he has trained and worked professionally as a Director and Multi-Disciplined Performer in many parts of the world including Indonesia, Spain, and various parts of the United States and Canada.

Melissa has a Master Degree in Arts Administration and has worked in City Arts Councils, toured fringe festivals across the US and Canada and recently relocated to Boulder, Colorado.
