Shine a Light on Equity: Support Rooftop Solar for Income-Qualified Families

Project SunShare is bringing affordable rooftop solar power to homeowners in Southwest Colorado who otherwise couldn't afford it. This close-to-home initiative is a shining example of how we can work together to create a more sustainable and equitable future.

By helping these income-qualified families we are contributing to their energy independence and reducing their utility costs -- resulting in years of significant savings. The target audience for this program is households earning at or below 80% Area Median Income (AMI) all the way up to 150%. For reference, 2024 AMI in La Plata County is $88,400 for a 2-person household.

Thanks to Shaw Solar's generous equipment donation, the project has secured 100 kW of solar panels— enough to power 20-25 solar arrays. This covers 30% of the total project cost. However, we still need help to bring the remaining 70% to fruition.

That's where 4CORE comes in. This local non-profit partner will collect donations to pass along to Shaw Solar for each completed installation as well as market the project to prospective recipients and handle the application & income verification process.

Here's how you can make a difference:

  • Homeowners will match your donation on a sliding scale based on their income. Lower-income families will contribute less, with donor funds covering a more significant portion.

  • Homeowner contributions are eligible for the 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit, providing an additional layer of savings.

  • 100% of your donation goes directly to the solar projects - administrative expenses have already been covered.

Join us in illuminating a path toward energy equity in our community. Your contribution, no matter the size, will help bring the life-changing benefits of rooftop solar to families in need.

Donations over $500 will apply to multiple projects, in increments of $500 or more, and we'll be sure to send you photos of each family and their array that you help support.

Together we can harness the power of the sun to build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

Donate now to Project SunShare and watch your impact shine!
