Despite having type-I diabetes for 37 years and presently being 61 years young, Greg Cummings is a two-time world record holder for the most vertical feet climbed in one year. In honor of the kids at Camp Wapiyapi, Greg will attempt to hike the Manitou Incline trail (just west of Manitou Springs, Colorado) this year as many times as possible. The trail ascends about 2,000 vertical feet in just under one mile. Camp Wapiyapi is a free summer camp located outside of Woodland Park, CO for children with pediatric cancer and their siblings (ages 6-17). "Theirs is a journey that no one should have to take," said Greg.

Greg climbed nearly 3 million vertical feet in 2014! To understand how high that is, the International Space Station orbits at roughly 1.3 million vertical feet! Greg's friend, Roger Austin, retook the record in 2015, so Greg is presently 2nd in the world (they have each held the record twice).

Greg and Roger are the only two people that have climbed the Incline trail more than 1,000 times in a year. The current record for the number of Incline ascents in one year is 1,719 and is held by Roger. When Greg's 'Climbing for a Cause' ends on January 11, 2020 (he began January 12, 2019), will there be a new record? "I am dedicating my adventure to the Camp Wapiyapi kids and their families. They are my inspiration! Please join me is supporting Camp Wapiyapi," Greg asked.

In 2019, you can find Greg on the Manitou Incline trail, probably every day!
