Golden Landmarks Association has had a significant impact on the landscape of Golden, Colorado. Our challenge of balancing historical values with current needs demands constant vigilance.

In 2014 Golden Landmarks Association successfully reintroduced the Golden Holiday House Tour, a part of Golden's Olde Golden Christmas Program. Additionally, GLA initiated it's largest permanent public display from it's historic photographic collection, which will be completed in 2015.

Goals for 2015 included becoming a sponsor for the annual Buffalo Bill Days celebration, expanding the 2015 Golden Holiday House Tour, reintroducing the Golden Walking Tours and Oral History Project.

As a volunteer based not-for-profit organization, GLA relies heavily on individual and corporate donations to achieve our mission of preservation.

GLA faces the additional challenges, as do many non-profits, of:
- Attracting and retaining volunteers
- Attracting and retaining Board Members
- Building our membership
- Increasing public visibility and awareness of our mission
- Creating unique and successful fund raising programs

GLA was created in 1972 to save the Astor House from demolition, making us the second oldest historic preservation organization in Colorado. During the Astor House preservation we collected, cataloged, and preserved historical artifacts from the community. This collection established our reputation in the community as a center for research on and about Golden. GLA was a founding member of the Golden Cultural Alliance which was established to provide a productive collaboration between the various
Golden cultural organizations. The Living Landmarks Dinner was established to recognize local individuals or organizations whose participation in the community have helped preserve and support
Golden. We worked with the city of Golden to designate three historic districts (East Street, Twelfth Street, and Eight/Ninth Street), five historic buildings (The Astor House, Burgess House, Guy Hill
School, Goosetown Tavern, and Brickyard House), and the Pearce and Reynolds Cabins. We led the effort to reopen the Harvard Archeological Dig at Magic Mountain. We were instrumental in saving the Pullman Historic Cabin logs. GLA participates in and sponsors booths at the Golden Farmers' Market, Golden Fine Arts Festival, Buffalo Bill Days and other major holiday events. We have planned and hosted Golden's Holiday Historic House Tours. When the USPS threatened to shut down Golden's downtown branch and sell the historic building, GLA and the City of Golden successfully worked to save the branch and ensure the future protection of the building. We have been actively preserving and digitizing both the Richard Ronzio and Pete Morrison photographic collections. We continue our
involvement with the city of Golden in our efforts to complete the restoration and preservation of the Brickyard House.

"Golden Landmarks has become one of those much beloved institutions - everyone hopes to receive a Living Landmark Award because it celebrates their contribution to the well-being of the community. Contributing to them is easy because you know it will benefit all of Golden!"
Marcie Miller - Executive Director, Golden Civic Foundation

"Golden Landmarks Association is a valuable asset to the Golden Community. They saved the Astor House from demolition in 1970, just as they are saving the Brickyard House right now. For more than 40 years, they have sustained the community's interest in our local history through their home tours, curation of the Ronzio photograph collection, the Living Landmarks program, frequent presence at Golden events, and many other educational programs. I am grateful for the work on behalf of Golden's history."
