The Longmont Museum is a center for culture in Northern Colorado where people of all ages explore history, experience art, and discover new ideas through dynamic programs, exhibitions, and events. The Friends of the Longmont Museum support this mission through encouraging public involvement and financial contributions to the Museum and its cultural activities.
Background Statement
The Longmont Museum was established in 1940 and began exhibiting objects and photographs documenting local history. In 1970, the Museum became a division of the City of Longmont, which now funds basic operations. Since then, the Museum has expanded and professionalized its staff and operations and now employs ten full-time and eight part-time staff as well as more than 100 volunteers. The City of Longmont Art in Public Places program came under Museum oversight in 1995. In 2002, a new 24,000 sq.ft. facility opened at 400 Quail Road in Longmont. in 2015 following a $4.5 million capital campaign, construction was completed on an addition featuring a 250-seat state-of-the-art auditorium and expanded education spaces.
