🌈 MHFB Rises Together
On stage, in the streets, and now on the course.
This spring, Mile High Freedom Bands is doing something we've never done before — fielding our first-ever team for the 2026 Denver Colfax Marathon weekend. We're hitting the streets of Denver on May 16-17, and every mile we run is a mile for the young musicians at the heart of what we do.
🎵 Why We Run
For one week every June, a group of high school musicians walks into our rehearsal space and finds something many of them have never had before: a room full of LGBTQ+ adults and allies who play music, who built community, and who made it through the hard parts of adolescence intact.
That's the heart of MHFB Youth Camp.
These students — young musicians who are LGBTQ+ or allies — spend the week rehearsing alongside our adult members, then perform with us on stage and in the streets at our Pride week performances. They leave with sharper musicianship, real friendships, and a glimpse of what their future could look like.
For some of them, it could be the first time they've seen that future clearly.
MHFB Youth Camp is free to every student who walks in the door. Your donation is what makes that possible. Even our Board President is lacing up for her very first race to help keep it that way -- and personally matching every donation dollar for dollar, up to $1,000. Those funds cover the costs of running the program and funding the LaBonne Youth Leadership Awards, scholarships that honor graduating seniors who exemplify leadership and community. We're still welcoming runners for all distances. Here's how to join:
- Register for your distance at the Colfax Marathon website — 5K, Urban 10-Miler, Half Marathon, Marathon, or Relay all qualify.
- In the Charity drop-down, choose Mile High Freedom Bands. Already registered? You can add us as your Charity Partner after the fact.
- Show up in MHFB colors and meet us at our Charity Village Tent for group photos and post-race celebrations!

• Two-Day Challenge: 5K + any Sunday race
