$500 goal
The problem?
90% of a child's brain develops before age 5.
Only 46% of parents read aloud with their children every day.
In low income neighborhoods, only 1 book is available for every 300 children.
The solution?
96% of children under age 5 see a doctor at least once a year!
During this year's holiday book drive and fundraiser, the Emporia State University Student Chapter of the American Library Association is excited to support the vital mission of Reach Out and Read. Reach Out and Read Colorado is committed to making books a part of preventive pediatric care and breaking the cycle of poverty. Thanks to their efforts and partnerships with 300 clinics statewide, 200,000 children will be prescribed books in 2016 with the help of more than 1450 medical providers.
