Do you believe in Democracy?

As I write these words on November 12, 2019 while the Supreme Court hears oral arguments to determine the future of DACA, I am mindful of all the powerful immigrant leaders, who have been my teachers in this movement - Franky, who made me realize that my neighbors are immigrants. Bianca, who invited me into her home and give me a glimpse into the ambiguity of living undocumented in the U.S. Victor, who challenged me to do the hard work to bring about change. Jeanette and Ingrid, who showed me how to persevere and fight in the face of a world saying "no". Carolina, who gave me permission to follow my heart and fight for immigrant rights...

All of these immigrant leaders are incredible leaders in their own way. Their courage and vulnerability in telling their stories and working for change have brought immigrant rights to the forefront of our country's political discussion. Nonetheless, these people and millions more are under attack from our government and the pervasive anti-immigrant and racist beliefs entrenched in our society. In the face of this challenge, we must create space for new leaders to come alongside the leaders that have brought us to where we are today. We must empower more immigrant leaders with the tools they need to have a voice in our community, state and nation, to be able to actually engage in this democracy. Their perspectives and the identities they represent highlight the ways in which our nation has fallen short of justice, while simultaneously painting a hopeful vision of "Liberty and Justice for All". $3,000 - covers the costs of a Movement Building Training in Northern Colorado for dozens of new leaders
