Mission Statement

The Denver Public Library Friends Foundation enriches our community by building support and raising money to enhance the Library's programs and services.

Organization History

The Friends of the Denver Public Library was incorporated in 1940 as a direct service group, providing volunteers and helping with programs. In 1962, the Denver Public Library Foundation was created with an ambition fundraising plan to support the newly-initiated Conservation Library. The Foundation oversaw funds from federal grants and managed some investments, but was not an active fundraising organization.

The two groups merged in 1982 into the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation, and in 1984 launched a successful membership program. Over the years, several events have been held, and a capital campaign raised over $6.6 million in 1995 for the new Central Library. To this day, the Friends Foundation continues to raise money, manage the endowment and provide advocacy efforts for the Library.
