Background Statement
Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 6 to 18. We are a non-profit 501 (c)(3) educational organization funded primarily through tuition; ticket sales and outside contributions and grants.
CYT founder, Paul Russell established CYT in 1981, in San Diego, CA, because he saw the impact that theater had in the lives of children. The heart of the CYT Mission is that investment in the lives of youth is an investment in our future, not only teaching theater arts, but more importantly character. Our slogan is "Developing Character...One Stage At A Time".
CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater organization in the nation. Currently, there are 49 affiliates across the country training 12,199 students a year and performing 108 musicals.
CYT Denver was founded in 1981 in San Diego, and the Denver affiliate incorporated in Colorado in 2002. Since that time we have grown our programs in Denver to offering classes in 5 locations each session, and performing anywhere from 5 - 9 productions during any given calendar year.
CYT Denver trains children in the performing arts through classes in voice, dance, acting and a broad spectrum of specialty classes such as advanced dance, tap, makeup and Improv. Three nine-week, class sessions are conducted per year (fall, winter, spring) and week long Summer Camps during the summer months.
Students enrolled in classes have the opportunity to audition and perform on stage in a professionally directed, full-scale production or to work behind the scenes serving as backstage technicians, ushers or sound technicians.
