• High quality and nurturing early learning and developmental experiences that ensure they are ready for school and on track for success.
• Effective, engaging schools that lead to their graduation from high school on time and equipped with the skills to pursue college, career and life.

Beneficiaries

Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)

Description

Safeguarding the health and wellness of Colorado's kids is important to building strong communities. To grow up healthy, kids must build healthy habits from a young age-including engaging in regular physical activity and eating nutritious foods-and have access to reliable, quality health care.

In the area of health care and delivery, we have a long track record of supporting access to quality health care coverage and service, including helping pass the policy to establish the Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), advocating for Medicaid expansion in Colorado and passing numerous policies to ensure coverage programs and private insurance systems meet the needs of children and families. The rate of uninsured children in Colorado has fallen steadily since 2008, reaching 5.6 percent in 2014 (according to the most recent data available). In the area of healthy living, the Children's Campaign has led efforts to reduce youth tobacco consumption, promote vaccination, and support healthy eating and active living.

Beneficiaries

Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)

Description

Improving student success in public education is important not just for realizing our children's potential. A high-quality education system benefits all Coloradans by creating a more skilled workforce and increasing economic growth in our communities and Colorado's long-term competitiveness in the global marketplace. To ensure that every child graduates from high school prepared for success in college, career and life, we must eliminate opportunity gaps and guarantee all students access to high-quality programs and schools that meet their individual needs.

Evidence of Program's Success

The Children's Campaign has a long history of working to ensure that all Colorado kids have access to a quality education, from helping to establish the Charter School Act, to the Great Teachers and Leaders Law, to the Reading to Ensure Academic Development (READ) Act.

Early Childhood

Class

Beneficiaries

Children and Youth (infants - 19 years.)

Description

Infancy and toddlerhood hold unique opportunities to help children flourish long-term. Because the foundations for physical, mental, oral and cognitive wellness are built in early childhood, public policies that promote healthy development and buffer adverse childhood experiences affect not only the present well-being of children but the trajectory of their adult lives.

Evidence of Program's Success

The Children's Campaign has a long history of working to ensure all kids have access to quality early learning experiences, including establishing the Colorado Preschool Program and the Denver Preschool Program.

During the 2019 legislative session, we worked with partners on successful legislation to expand access to free full day Kindergarten for all families that choose to elect it. This also led the largest preschool expansion in Colorado history.
