Mission Statement

Founded in 1985, the Colorado Children's Campaign is a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization that serves as the leading voice for Colorado children. Using the most reliable data and research on child well-being and backed by a statewide network of dedicated child advocates, the Children's Campaign champions public policies and programs related to early childhood education, children's health and K-12 education that help ensure every chance for every child to succeed.

Organization History

Founded in 1985, the Colorado Children's Campaign has been the leading nonpartisan voice for Colorado children for 35 years. Using the most reliable data and research on child well-being and backed by a statewide network of dedicated child advocates, the Children's Campaign champions public policies and programs that help lift children out of poverty; improve child health, early childhood experiences and K-12 education; and realize every chance for every child to reach his or her full potential. Among the numerous laws and programs we've helped establish are the Colorado Agency for Early Childhood, Safe Firearm Storage, the Colorado Preschool Program, Child Health Plan Plus, and the Great Teachers and Leaders Law.

In early 2020, we adopted an equity-centered Theory of Change through a process that engaged all staff and board members. We frequently refer to this document in making decisions about activities and how we use resources. The Theory of Change will inform our next three-year strategic planning process, which will finish this fall.

Testimonials

Tom Clark, CEO, Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation, Executive VP, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce: "When I think of the Colorado Children's Campaign, I think 'best data ever.' Whenever I have a business leader looking for data, I send them straight to the Children's Campaign."

Holly Jacobson, It's About Kids Network Member: "By partnering with the Colorado Children's Campaign, the Mesa County Partnership for Children and Families reaches a broader audience collaboratively - at the local and state levels - with KIDS COUNT data, research, information, and advocacy facilitated by the Campaign to improve the quality, access and equity of services for children and their families. The Campaign provides a critical link between children and communities across the state. Through their partnerships, leadership, and initiative, they show that investing in your community, through child and family programs, is supporting the state's most important asset: our future."

2015 Speak Up participant: "I learned tremendous amounts of information and got relevant practice in a realm that formerly seemed inaccessible."

2015 Parent Academy participant: "The Colorado Children's Campaign's Parent Academy was an excellent way to learn concrete ways to advocate for our children's education as well as gain knowledge on how education policy works. I would definitely recommend it for any parent who wants to advocate for their own kids as well as other kids in the community."

Elaine Grossman, Valley Settlement Project, Carbondale: "Valley Settlement is just one of the thousands of organizations that benefit from your important work and advocacy…I would be hard-pressed to count the number of times we refer to KIDS COUNT throughout the year."

Jackie Florendo, Alliance for Kids, Colorado Springs: "It's About Kids! is a great resource for our Early Childhood Council and Community! The information, the data, legislative updates, resources and people are fantastic! One example of the many benefits our community has reaped includes the KIDS COUNT in Colorado Community Presentation."
