C.A.R.E.'s programs save companion animal lives in the western United States and curb pet homelessness. They fund transport, veterinary care and spay neuter services in low-income, rural, underserved and indigenous communities. They also assist needy small shelters and rescues with donations to help with operating expenses. Last, C.A.R.E. assists referred struggling pet owners with donations so they don't have to surrender their pets during hard times.
Our programs directly reduce the number of animals being euthanized in shelters. Through transport and veterinary programs, more homeless pets are being given the opportunity to find new homes. Our spay and neuter clinics are reducing pet overpopulation and enhancing the health and behaviors of each pet being fixed. Our program Helping People Keep Their Pets has been especially critical during the COVID pandemic and the inflationary times in 2023. C.A.R.E. also donates supplies and financial donations to Pet Food Banks (Pantries) to assist owners going through difficult financial times.

C.A.R.E. is dedicated to funding the safe transportation of homeless pets to approved rescues and adoptive homes. While we ceased the large weekly pick- up of rescued animals in the Midwest in August 2016, we are funding the transports of other groups nationwide to get animals to their rescue destination. C.A.R.E. is committed to reducing the number of homeless pets by funding spay and neuter programs in poor, rural and tribal locations. C.A.R.E. assists homeless pets with veterinary care through Jake's Fund. C.A.R.E. helps individuals keep their pets during times of hardship, and assists pets and shelters affected by natural disasters. C.A.R.E. provides donations for capital improvements and medical care for the animals to disadvantaged shelters and rescuers.
C.A.R.E. formed in June 2007 to help transport homeless animals from remote or rural shelters in the Midwest get to Colorado based rescue organizations. These animals were facing euthanasia in the shelters. They had limited or no adoption options in their current area. By bringing them to Colorado, they would be placed in foster care with a rescue group, have their health and behavior assessed, and placed properly with a forever family. In August of 2016, the weekly big interstate transports were passed to a new group, named Hope For Paws Colorado. C.A.R.E. continues to fund animal rescue transports all over the western United States and has provided or funded close to 60,000 rides through October 2023.
Over the years, we saw the need to develop other programs to assist the animals in shelters and rescues. In October, 2008, we started Jake's Fund to help shelter and and animals in rescue with veterinary care. Through October 2023, over 9,000 animals have been helped with their veterinary expenses.
In 2009, we started organizing and funding Spay & Neuter programs in poor, rural and tribal communities. Through October 2023, more than 50,000 pets have been fixed with our funding. Spay and neuter funding our top priority now because of the animal welfare crisis.
Next, C.A.R.E. started a program to help rural shelters and rescues with their capital, veterinary and pet food needs. Last, we also saw the need to help owners who love their pets keep them during challenging times.
