As Buntport Theater we know it is necessary to create new works. We stress accessibility and affordability and offer an abundance of varied original programming with broad audience appeal. Collaboration on every level is a strong and vital model for Arts organizations.
Buntport Theater Company is a vibrant ensemble of five people located in Denver, Colorado. Intent on creating innovative and affordable entertainment, we write and produce all of our work. Each piece grows from a collaborative process, without specific directors or designers ... we brainstorm our way to any given solution, relying on the combined skills of the whole ensemble. We are the writers, the directors, the performers, the technicians ... even the administrators.
Known for unusual adaptations and quirky original comedies, we keep our seasons packed, debuting several new full-length productions in addition to a variety of less traditional programming. From live sit-coms to unique open mic nights to family friendly entertainment to an on-going series at the Denver Art Museum, we offer progams that appeal to all walks of life.
We consider ourselves to be on the fringe of traditional theater while at the same time focusing on remaining super accessible. Come to a Buntport production and you know you'll be seeing a world premiere unique to our warehouse off of the Santa Fe Arts district.
I always leave a Buntport production thinking 'how did they do that?' From clever sets, plots and characters, this small troupe of players comes up with the funniest, most intelligent and thought provoking theatre. They have transported me to other places, other times and other dimensions.....and I have never been the same since.

What the hell is a Buntport?
I still don't know.
What I do know, however, is that Buntport Theater is the best theater I've ever seen: wickedly smart, hilarious, creative, and truly one of a kind.
When I think objectively about the shows Buntport makes-original works, people, from concept to curtain-and how many shows Buntport makes, year after year after year, it blows my mind. I think, "How can they do this? Nobody does this! It's too hard!" But Buntport does it, and they do it really well.
I worked in the theater for almost 20 years; I saw a lot of ambitious productions that fell flat (see: money can't save a crappy show). I also saw a lot of theater folk work really hard to mount mediocre productions of great plays (see: good writing can't make up for bad performances). And I saw a lot of "avante-guard" or "fringe" theater that...well, that sucked (see: a creative idea alone can't overcome shoddy production or performance). And then there is Buntport: so far out in front of the pack as to be in their own race all together. And they are definitely winning.
I love Buntport. After 13 years (!) they are not resting on their laurels (even though no one would blame them if they did). I can't wait to see what they come up with next. It's sure to be worth seeing and supporting.
