Testimonials

Testimonials from Teachers regarding Music in the Schools programs:

"The students greatly improved musically and were inspired by the musicianship of the artists. The excellence of the group and their ability to involve even hesitant students in improvisation will carryover into students' confidence and sense of excellence in all subject areas." - Instrumental Music Teacher Karen Olsen after the Michael Friedman Jazz Quintet Workshop at Summit High School, May 1, 2017

"This school has a high percentage of language learners and families in poverty, and that means that not many have musical opportunities outside of school. Thank you so much for giving them this experience. I loved how the dialogue during and between the music kept my students engaged, connected to the curriculum and made them think and focus. I also enjoyed the individual presentations by each instrument family as it really introduced the kids to the different types of instruments. I also loved the conducting." - Music Teacher Chloe David, Silverthorne Elementary after Inside the Orchestra, May 2, 2017

Testimonials from the 2016 Audience Satisfaction Survey:

"I really love the festival, and the opportunity to hear more classical music that I wouldn't hear otherwise. I wish more people could be exposed to this music."

"This was a very interesting and enjoyable summer of programming. I like the diversity of what the BMF does. I like that the BMF has an orchestra, but also that the programs are not all traditional. Doing interesting things with an orchestra is a draw."

Background Statement

The BMF began in the summer of 1980 as a ten day music festival to mark the centennial celebration of Father Dyer Church. The festival, chartered as the Breckenridge Music Institute, operated a summer music festival and youth music camp. Thirty-six years later the BMF has become a lasting part of the cultural life in Breckenridge and Summit County operating in the remodeled Riverwalk Center, a comfortable and acoustically excellent performance hall.
