Bootstraps, Inc. - Evergreen Scholarship/Bootstraps, Inc.

All families want a better life for their children. Though many students qualify for financial aid, many families are still hard pressed to keep up with the ever-increasing financial burden of sending their children to college. Bootstraps helps families to alleviate some of this financial burden.

Description

Recognizing that students continuing their post secondary education beyond one year still require financial assistance, Bootstraps has undertaken a new program for continuing interest-free loans. Students who received an award from Bootstraps for their first year of post secondary education are eligible to apply for and receive funds under this program. Loans are a maximum of $5,000 per year. It is our goal for the recipients to graduate from college in no more than five years without interest-bearing student debt.

Evidence of Program's Success

This is a new program for Bootstraps therefore we do not have evidence of the success for our organization. However, research conducted using the CO Department of Higher Education database validates that students in post secondary education are more likely to graduate and graduate on-time from their programs if provided with financial assistance for the entire length of the program.

Evidence of Program's Success

One of the best examples of success for this program is Erik Pedersen. Erik graduated from Evergreen High School in 1998. He received a one-year scholarship from Bootstraps and four years of interest free loans. Erik repaid his loan in one payment as soon as he graduated. He is employed locally in the food and beverage industry and is also the past president of Bootstraps, having served as president for four years.

Rob graduated from Evergreen High School in 1981. He was one of those students who didn't have the grades to qualify for a scholarship, but he knew he needed help if he was going to go to college. He received a Bootstraps loan, which he credits as being responsible for making him the person he is today. He has a successful utility engineering business and is the sponsor of an annual Bootstraps Scholarship.

Lastly, Bootstraps conducts periodic surveys of past recipients to determine progress.

Bootstraps' loan repayment rate is very high which helps to make this program almost self-sustaining. As loan payments are made, the funds are recycled in the form of new continuing loans.
