Mission Statement

The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas Counties uses advocacy and education to include all children and adults with disabilities, and their families, in their communities.

Organization History

The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas Counties has been providing advocacy and support to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families since 1954. This organization originated when parents who had sons and daughters with developmental disabilities developed and submitted Articles of Incorporation to the State of Colorado. We are affiliated with The Arc Colorado and The Arc United States. We continue to work in our community to enhance the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Our core values are People First, Democracy, Visionary, Leadership, Community Participation, Diversity and Integrity and Excellence.

We have received wonderful notes and thank you cards over the year's from many parents and professionals, and would like to share a few:

"I truly can't express what The Arc has meant in our lives. I'd never have gotten thru those Individualized Education Plan's without your staff's assistance and your input at the Adult Service Planning was always appreciated...I'll always be proud of you and the important work you do. You have been priceless to my and Matthew's life."

"Having moved from another state I just wanted to make sure goals set with my son's school were challenging and applicable to his needs for adult life. The advocate I met with was very knowledgeable about him and his particular school. I really appreciated her impartial thoughts."

"Thank you for helping us with Brendan's Individualized Education Plan. Your knowledge of the law and assessment of the situation was invaluable. We appreciated that you didn't tell us what we wanted to hear, but what we needed to hear. You were able to explain the Individualized Education Plan in terms that we understood. Thank you for your coordination of the final meeting and housekeeping issues; it took more stress out of the situation."

"Thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with us and share your knowledge and resources. We are excited to learn from you."
