Testimonials

"They taught him how to do his laundry, how to cook, how to go across the street, how to introduce himself, how to use money.  I don’t think he would have a job without YVAP.” - Mother of a STRIDES graduate.

“YVAP would go with my daughter so she could participate, even in other organizations.  One thing I really appreciated about YVAP is they were willing to learn and do whatever it took.  It wasn’t so much that they were able to manage her disability cognitively, but that they have also stepped up to the plate with [her physical condition].” -Mother of a daughter using Special Activity Support

“The fact that YVAP has been able to help with funding and has been able to provide an aide two days a week is critical. " - Mother of a child using Special Activities Support to attend City Camp.

"I need to work on consistency, but I got TONS of ideas and new, fresh approaches (and attitudes/beliefs) to try.  Thank you!  Best training I've been to in a long time!" - Educator, attended YVAP's "Behavior Boot Camp" training presented in partnership with Northwest Colorado BOCES.

"Diane was wonderful with him and then Cope.  He used to go to sessions with [another boy].  He, Cope, and [this boy] met for at least a year or more.  And it was good because they could have that social interaction, and Diane or Cope could say, 'OK, how do you think that made him feel when you just took the toy and wouldn’t share it?' or 'You might want to use a different tone of voice.'  To have those social interactions.  It’s priceless to me. Truly, I cannot say enough good things about Yampa Valley Autism.  I mean, if there was a wish and dream that is not currently happening, I wish that you were able to have more staff and come into the Moffat County schools. " - Parent of son in ABA therapy.

Background Statement

In 2002, a group of six mothers gathered in Steamboat Springs with the goal of securing high-quality, specialized services for their children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This was no small feat in a rural mountain community. Yampa Valley Autism Program was born in 2004, gaining 501(c)3 status in 2007.

Yampa Valley Autism now serves over 50 children with therapy and services to address their social, emotional, educational, physical, and vocational needs. The wrap-around program is designed to provide children and youth aged 2-21 with the skills and support they need to maximize their independence and lead well-rounded lives.

Yampa Valley Autism is Northwest Colorado's only Medicaid-approved ABA therapy provider. This evidence-based therapy has been shown to improve outcomes for children with autism.

Yampa Valley Autism relies on donations and grants to provide therapy to children regardless of the family's ability to pay.

Yampa Valley Autism is ensuring health equity for children in rural Colorado. Please help ensure we can continue to do so without limits.
