Evidence of Program's Success

Our success will ultimately be reflected by the experience of the locals and the experience of the travelers. We want to increase cultural awareness and knowledge through cultural exchange between the WorldDenver members who travel and the locals they meet in their respective countries. We also want to enhance our international visitor leadership alumni connections through the travel program.

Signature Event Programs

Beneficiaries

Adults
Young Adults (20-25 years)

Description

WorldDenver hosts two annual signature events. The first is International Women's Day on March 8th every year. This is an event when we honor women in the community who have advocated for women both in Colorado and globally. During the event a panel of international visitors speaks about the status of women in their respective countries.

The other signature event is Global Cup Challenge- a pub- style trivia competition focused on global issues. Teams from local companies and organizations come together to have fun and learn some global trivia. We offer prizes to the top three teams and a spirit prize for the best- dressed and themed team.

Evidence of Program's Success

Positive results from surveys from attendees and international visitors, number of community organizations that get involved each year, and engaging an audience that is diverse in terms of demographics represented in the community.

Young Adults (20-25 years)

Description

The speaker series offers a unique opportunity for Coloradans to learn about current issues in foreign affairs from those who are at the forefront of policy making and scholarship. Each month, we host networking events featuring distinguished authors, international thought leaders, and policymakers. World Affairs Council events provide members an opportunity to connect with each other while getting "behind the headlines" on important current issues in international affairs. Recent topics have ranged from the refugee crisis in Europe to ISIS and policy between the U.S. and the Middle East. Through the speaker series events, we bring the world to Denver and educate the public about global issues and timely events.

International Visitor Leadership Program

Beneficiaries

Adults
General Public/Unspecified

Description

One of the primary ways in which WorldDenver connects the Colorado community to the rest of the world is through the International Visitor Leadership Program. For 75 years, this program has brought foreign leaders and specialists to Colorado to meet with their professional counterparts and experience life and culture in the United States. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the program enables ordinary Americans to participate in a sort of grassroots diplomacy, influencing future foreign relations through their interactions with these international visitors.

Evidence of Program's Success

In FY 2017, WorldDenver hosted over 650 visitors from over 100 countries all around the world. Our visitors this year came for programs centralized around a variety of topics including water security, energy conservation, disability services, public health, entrepreneurship, and human trafficking to name a few. Visitors attended meetings with professional resources in Colorado and were hosted for dinner by WorldDenver members who have praised the experience. The programs have received positive feedback from visitors, staff, professionals in Colorado, and the State Department coordinators.

"I believe the exchange of ideas is very useful. It is not unusual for our visitors to approach issues differently than we do and it is very helpful to have an inquisitive mind. We all benefit by hearing the experiences of others and when questioned about our own."
- Commissioner Jim Tarpey, Colorado Public Utilities Commission

"The unforgettable and caring hospitality we got from the host family is indescribable. Overall, it seems to me that they (America) are really a rich nation, rich in mind and rich in mentality." - Md. Nurunnabi, Professional Exchange Visitor from Bangladesh
