Every Colorado Child Facing a Critical Illness Deserves the Power of a Wish
When a child is facing a critical illness, days can quickly become filled with treatments, appointments, and uncertainty. A wish gives them something extraordinary to look forward to. It offers a chance to dream, experience joy, and create memories their family will treasure forever.
No two wishes are alike. For one Colorado wish kid, it's the thrill of an F1 race in Austin. For others, it's traveling to Paris to practice French, meeting a sloth, or becoming a firefighter for a day. Each wish is as unique as the child behind it, giving them a chance to focus on being a kid instead of their illness.
The impact of a wish extends far beyond the wish itself.
5-year-old Izzy loves fish and the water, so his one true wish was a trip to Hawaii.
"Izzy finished chemo and we packed our bags for our first family vacation ever. It was exactly what we needed. Watching Izzy laugh and play means more than words can say. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us this time together!"
— Vanessa, Wish Mom from Colorado Springs
Research shows a wish can help children build the emotional and physical strength needed to face a critical illness. Wishes like Izzy's are granted at no cost to families, thanks to people like you.

Make-A-Wish Colorado began in 1983 with 7-year-old Jennifer Mazak. While being treated for a liver condition, Jennifer found joy listening to KIMN radio and dreamed of meeting its mascot, the KIMN Chicken. Then one summer morning, a giant yellow chicken showed up at her front door. Jennifer and the KIMN Chicken spent the day together, creating a memory that stayed with her family long after that day.
Her mother, Joan, saw how much the experience meant to Jennifer. After Jennifer passed away, Joan founded Make-A-Wish Colorado in her memory, inspired to create that same kind of extraordinary moment for other children.
More than 40 years later, Make-A-Wish Colorado has granted more than 7,300 wishes. It all started with Jennifer, one unforgettable day and a giant yellow chicken.
