Mission Statement

WeeCycle strives to improve the health and well-being of children raised in poverty. We collect, "weecycle" and match essential baby gear. This includes diapers, wipes and formula to families in need through partner organizations focused on alleviating poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, teen pregnancy and under-employment. By "weecycling" baby gear, we help keep children clean and safe and contribute to a healthier environment for their future. WeeCycle is working to narrow (and ideally eliminate) the gaps that exist and negatively impact infant and toddler development.

Organization History

WeeCycle began in 2008 as the brainchild of two new moms, Jayme Ritchie and Sunny Heydorn who felt fortunate to provide for their new babies in a volatile economic time, knowing that others were not as lucky. They further understood that when a family is not able to provide essential items for their children, they may be placing their children at a higher risk of diminished cognitive development, injury or death. They initially pitched their idea to a nonprofit incubator, who brought WeeCycle under their umbrella, allowing them to open their doors and focus on their mission. They built up their inventory by reaching out to personal networks and holding gear drives at local schools and companies, and soon began to set up partnerships with other local nonprofits who desperately needed the gear for their clients. The strategy worked. WeeCycle grew from matching approximately 1,000 baby gear items with 45 low-income families through five community partners in 2009, to providing 170,196 baby gear items to 11,147 children in 2019.
Since our COVID-19 response efforts began in early March, 2020 we distributed approximately 93,587 infant-specific meals, 1,261,753 diapers, serving over 46,579 children with 50 community partners. WeeCycle's mission remains the same: to recycle essential baby gear and match it to Colorado families in need.
WeeCycle provides a two-fold gift to Colorado families and the environment. WeeCycle supplies families with the baby gear needed to keep their infants and toddlers safe during their early years, while also practicing good stewardship of the planet that these children will one day inherit.

"Blanca and her husband both contracted Covid-19 at the beginning of April. Her husband worked as a plumber and handyman. Blanca was a stay-at-home mom, juggling the schedules and activities of her four children living in the home, as well as her two-year-old grandson. Since the beginning of April, the family has had no income. Blanca continues to test positive for Covid. Although her husband is now testing negative, he continues to have a bad cough and trouble breathing. His work has decreased significantly and he only works 3-4 hours per day, in
comparison to the 8-10-hour days he was working. Through donations from WeeCycle, the family has received 250 diapers over the past three months, in addition to 6 packs of wipes. This support is invaluable to Blanca and her family!" - Lindsey Hazel, Denver Public School's FACE Program

"On Tuesday, March 30, we broke records. Thanks to your help securing diapers, bottles and other baby supplies, we helped 121 households in and around the City of Aurora. Amongst these households, 334 children received help thanks to your efforts. We heard stories from parents about their twin toddlers at home; the four-month old sitting in the car seat in the back of the car; to the baby expected any day now. Families had huge smiles and faces of relief when we were able to give them the baby supplies from WeeCycle."
-District Attorney George Brauchler describing WeeCycle's partnership with One Place
