I always feel good about contributing to ViDAS because I like the idea of solving the overpopulation problem. ViDAS makes a real difference in the areas where they bring their clinics. Thank you, ViDAS Volunteers. - Janet Gray
Our amazing volunteers pay their own expenses so that 100% of our donations go to helping animals. The Board provides donations that cover our administrative expenses and we have no paid employees.

This was my first clinic as a volunteer. I have to say I was overwhelmed with the camaraderie of the team--they were very organized and everything ran very smoothly, and with the appreciation shown by the locals. They couldn't stop thanking us. They were so grateful that we all took time out of our own lives to go to Playa Del Carmen to work so hard for them. The animals were the main focus the whole time.. Thank you ViDAS, for the wonderful experiences and friendships I made because of you. The animals thank you the most! - Deb Arrowood
ViDAS is a non-profit organization made up of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary students and other animal lovers dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people through veterinary medicine and education.
Our goal is prevention of animal suffering due to starvation, disease, and other health problems associated with pet overpopulation in areas of need, recognizing also that overpopulation of animals contributes directly to human disease as well.
Our focus is safe sterilization for the animals and education for the people about safe animal handling, zoonotic disease and general animal husbandry and health care. We also strive for coordination with local veterinarians and municipalities to establish sustainable and humane solutions to overpopulation.
Education is important. We believe that change is most possible when the people are armed with knowledge. We encourage and organize open discussion of disease, pet care and safety with local adults and children at our clinics.
ViDAS pledges to practice high quality medicine and to treat our animal patients and human volunteers and patrons with the highest degree of respect possible
ViDAS conducted our first clinic in June of 2002. Six veterinary students and two veterinarians successfully sterilized 100 cats and dogs over 5 days in Playa del Carmen.
The need for continued attention to the overpopulation problem was recognized by founding members Cristina Gutierrez, Ruth Parkin, Robyn Gadojsik and Ginny Gill, veterinary students at Colorado State University at the time. With the invaluable mentorship of Dr. Lesli Groshong of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, ViDAS was born.
Since our inaugural trip in 2002, ViDAS clinics have increased significantly in size and efficiency. We now routinely provide over 1500 sterilization surgeries during each 6 day clinic. We are very proud of our high anesthesia safety and standards of care and have always worked constantly at improving both.
We are also constantly and passionately driving toward our goals: to become more productive and effective at each clinic, to educate locals about the problems and solutions to pet overpopulation and to work with local veterinarians and municipalities on sustainable and humane solutions to overpopulation.
