U.S. Green Building Council Colorado Chapter

A nonprofit organization

Over ten years ago a group of dreamers came together to create a Colorado community aligned with environmental and social stewardship. Our volunteers quickly coalesced to educate, inspire, and communicate about sustainable buildings and communities, and recruit likeminded folk, spreading the word across the land. Please join us as we transform the places we live, learn, work, and play!

Testimonials

"We're doing great stuff. We're expanding minds regionally, and helping people to take new ideas and practices to their businesses and personal lives."
-Stan Wagner

"Our progression from member to sponsor within the Colorado Chapter has benefited our organization. The experience our business has received and the relationships we have built continue to flourish. I would advocate to any individual or business thinking of joining or sponsoring the Colorado Chapter. The knowledge gained and sustained through your involvement will pay back your organization ten-fold."
-Leo Atencio, Lafarge North America

Mission

To inspire, educate and connect people to transform where we live, learn, work and play.

Background Statement

USGBC Colorado was formed in 2003 and is the 15th local chapter of the national U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Our staff of threeis supported by the generous help and contributions of approximately 1,000 sponsors, volunteers, and members.

We are a diverse group of builders and environmentalists, corporations and nonprofits, teachers and students, lawmakers and citizens. We share the vision of a sustainable built environment for all within the next generation. USGBC Colorado is transforming the building landscape in a number of ways.

Primarily, USGBC is known for its signature program, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification system for buildings, homes and communities. LEED provides a framework that guides building design, construction, operations and maintenance.

USGBC Colorado works with a number of local non-profits and communities on variety programs such as Energy Star, Certifiably Green Denver, and the Green Apple Day of Service.

USGBC Colorado has been instrumental in advocating for local ordinances and state statutes that support healthy, sustainable communities. These include graywater legislation and a Green addendum to the multiple listing service to better inform home buyers and sellers.
