To enable an immersive environmental education experience at the Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, fostering a lifelong love of nature.
The Foundation was founded in October of 1990 and is a registered non-profit Corporation in the State of Colorado. The Foundation is a 501c(3), which gives it the ability to raise funds to enhance the Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge and expand its facilities to support environmental education in our community.
While there's plenty that the government can do and must do to protect and preserve the environment, there's also a lot that government can't do. That's where the Foundation and it's board of directors come in.
In recognition of these efforts, the Foundation was awarded the Environmental Protection Agency's Outstanding Achievement Award in 1991. This was to acknowledge the excellent example of what concerned citizens can accomplish in protecting natural areas. Since 2000, the Foundation has been recognized for its efforts to enhance the Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge.

The Foundation launched its first major fund raising effort in 2000 and since then has raised over $250,000 from private donations, grants and in-kind contributions.
These contributions have built kiosks at the three refuge entrances, trails, paving bricks, benches at the east entrance and the two pedestrian bridges over the canals. The funds have also supported environmental education projects including the prairie garden plantings with plant ID signs, a noxious weed brochure, interactive sketch table, a refuge tour brochure and a traveling environmental trunk which is used in schools throughout the metro area.
The Foundation hosts the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest in Colorado, participates in Arvada's Trails Day, and is a member of the Arvada Chamber of Commerce.
