Description

In SHFH's 2020 - 2025 Strategic Plan we are moving forward to build ten homes in five years. This goal is made up of eight workforce units in the Town of Fairplay and two single family homes in Summit County (Dillon Valley & Burland Placer developments); with plans to have all work completed before the end of 2025. This ambitious, life changing work is not possible without cross-sector collaborations and the generosity from philanthropists like you!

Description

Habitat for Humanity is known for building homes and creating homeownership opportunities for low-income families, but that is not all we do. The majority of work done through SHFH involves preserving homeownership through home maintenance and repair projects that help keep homes in a safe and livable condition. Our Brush with Kindness program empowers local homeowners through providing the resources needed to thrive. Each year our Brush with Kindness program improves the lives, neighborhoods, and communities of Summit County residents.

Evidence of Program's Success

One of our 2018 BWK clients includes an aging individual living with multiple sclerosis and needing several ADA modifications for their home, after SHFH completed two stair lifts and modified the bathroom they shared, "My quality of life has changed dramatically! There is no way I could stay in my home without your help, and where would I go?! These stair lifts have added 2-3 hours of activity to my day because I have more energy to be up and about. Thank you!" SHFH changes the lives of local residents and families each year, and we want to do more. While our BK program has elevated the lives of numerous local residents, we believe that there is more to be done, and are strengthening our organization to be a collaborative partner with a multi-pronged approach to build a continuum of housing for Summit's residents.
