Libraries in Colorado are shifting from a concentration on physical collections in the library building, to providing a rich selection of online resources. The Foundation contributes to this by providing a significant proportion of the funds for the Summit County Library's e-book collection.

In 2019, Summit County Library is excited to increase the size of the collection to include a wider choice of online downloadable resources for school age children. Research shows that providing access to human read books through eAudiobooks can increase comprehension and vocabulary. Exposure to more words can help students in their engagement with the story and improve critical thinking skills. With the support of the Foundation, we are pleased to offer these opportunities to Summit County children.

Evidence of Program's Success

The results are readily apparent. The statistics show that Summit County Library patrons are downloading and reading e-books and eAudiobooks in increasing numbers. In the first six months of 2019 the Library showed a healthy 26% increase in the checkout of downloadables over the figures for 2018, with numbers growing from 16,500 to 20,800 checkouts.
